About Us

Community Initiative for Social and Economic Development (CISED)

is a registered non-profit organization that is committed to the  holistic transformation of communities  through improving lives and expanding opportunities for women, men, girls, and boys;, persons of concern (as refugees, returnees, stateless people, internally displaced, and asylum-seekers)and People with Disabilities. Our work is focused on good governance, women’s economic empowerment, girl child education, sustainable futures, equity, human rights and ultimately the delivery of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) at the grassroots level.

Headquartered in Lusaka, Zambia, CISED works with and through its partnerships across the country; Governmental authorities, the private sector and civil society Organization partners to transform lives of marginalized communities. We are inspired by the recognition of the constantly changing environment we work in, that requires us to partner with others to achieve more. In order to partner with you or your organization we must have harmony of purpose, skills and strategy that will enable us to maximize our contributions for the combined vision of success.

Our Mission

We exist to transform lives, expand  equal opportunities for societies to flourish across a dynamic and developing unequal gender relations so that communities we work in are expressing and utilising their potential, for good governance and democracy, equity and human rights, climate change adaptation  through collective visioning and action in Zambia.

Our Core Values

Our core values are a shared foundation manifested in each of our organisation. These principles guide our  programming,  partnerships,  institutional culture, and our approach in the manner in which we conduct our business. Our organisational values are described as follows:

  • Deep respect for local context: We are immersed in the social, political, environmental, and economic realities in the country, region and informed by a community-led approach.
  • Driving force: requiring us to improve the lives of vulnerable persons, these being women, men, girls, and boys; internally displaced, refugees, people living with disabilities and other marginalised groups through innovating and adapting for impactful programmes.
  • Mutual Respect: recognizing the innate dignity and worth of all people and the value of diversity irrespective of sex, age, race, colour, class, and religion; ensuring equal opportunity for expressing and utilizing their potential.
  • Honesty and Transparency:accountability, full disclosure, great courage, and truthfulness in our judgements, actions, and communications with others.
  • Integrity:demonstration of trust, respect, and honesty in our transactions, upholding the safety and dignity of our staff, children, women, refugees, those living with disabilities and other marginalized groups who are beneficiaries of our programming.

We bring together local individuals, communities, civil society the private and government sectors, who are shaping local communities’ future. CISED Believes in the People Centred -Right Based Approach, where NO ONE IS LEFT BEHIND.  We explore the 5R’s (Right Objectives, Right Assistance, Right People, Right Time and at the Right-Way in which the  people we work with have the right to be actively involved in decisions that affect their lives.
